World Heli-Ski Season Calendar

Heli-skiing runs somewhere in the world almost every month of the year — the trick is knowing where. This calendar maps the operating season of every region we list, so you can line up a trip against the months you can actually travel.

The northern hemisphere carries the bulk of the season. Alaska and British Columbia typically run from January through April, with Alaska's Chugach and Tordrillo ranges peaking in late March and April when the snowpack stabilises and the days get long. Europe — the Alps, the Pyrenees, Georgia's Caucasus and Iceland's Troll Peninsula — generally runs February to May, and Iceland's midnight-sun skiing stretches latest. Greenland and northern Scandinavia sit at the tail end, into May and June.

When the north shuts down, the southern hemisphere opens. Chile and Argentina ski July through September, and New Zealand's Southern Alps run roughly July to October. That makes August the quiet answer to “where can I heli-ski right now?” in the middle of a European summer.
