Northern Hemisphere programs usually concentrate between December and April. Iceland, Greenland, and Riksgränsen extend later because spring provides more daylight while high mountain snow remains.

Southern Hemisphere programs normally use the austral winter. Central Andes and New Zealand windows depend on seasonal snowfall, operator schedules, permits, and weather.
