About trip

Fly from Queenstown to Aoraki Mount Cook for a guided day skiing the Tasman Glacier. The winter 2026 package costs NZD 2,495 per person and lasts about nine hours, returning to Queenstown around 16:30–17:00. A scenic fixed-wing flight of approximately 40 minutes connects Queenstown with Mount Cook Airport. The experience includes two 8–10-kilometre glacier descents and three helicopter flights. Its rolling terrain is intended for confident intermediate skiers who are comfortable on green and blue resort runs; previous powder experience is not required. Groups of four to eight ski with a professional mountain or ski guide.

Skiing

Ski The Tasman follows long, moderate glacier terrain with ice formations, traverses and flatter sections rather than steep heli-ski lines. The day is best for skiers; snowboarders may struggle to maintain momentum. Exact routes depend on snow cover and guide decisions.

FAQ

Cancellation terms
To safeguard against last-minute cancellations and potential loss of payment/deposits resulting from injury or travel disruption, we highly recommend obtaining travel insurance. Most standard travel policies offer coverage for such situations, subject to specific limits. Responsibility Disclaimer: We assume no responsibility for illness, personal accidents, or evacuation costs if necessary. While Accident Compensation in New Zealand covers most accidents, it does not cover illnesses. Cancellation and Refund Policy: Cancellations made 15 days or less prior to commencement will not be eligible for a refund. For cancellations made within 30 days prior to commencement, we reserve the right to retain 75% of the full fee. Cancellations within 60 days prior to commencement may result in the retention of 50% of the full fee. COVID-19 Related Cancellations: Considering the uncertainties related to COVID-19, we strongly advise purchasing travel insurance that covers potential disruptions to your travels or mountain trip. If you need to cancel due to a border closure or lockdown event, a refund will be provided, with a 10% administration fee per person deducted. Alternatively, upon request, we can hold your payments as a deposit for up to 12 months for a future visit, with the 10% administration fee still applicable. No refund will be due after 12 months.
Refund policy
Private Guiding programs do not qualify for refunds in cases of voluntarily shortened trips, except under exceptional circumstances. In instances where weather and/or conditions necessitate modifications to the trip itinerary, no refund will be issued. However, any unincurred trip costs may be reimbursed. For Scheduled Programs, refunds will not be provided for abandoning the trip due to medical or fitness reasons. We strongly advise obtaining travel insurance to mitigate potential financial impact in the event of a medical situation.
Safety
For your safety, Ski The Tasman ensures that its team of guides consists of seasoned professionals who have undergone rigorous training and certification to international standards through the NZMGA* training program. Additionally, all guides meet the stringent requirements set forth by the NZ Heli Operators Group, reflecting the commitment to providing a high level of expertise and safety for their clients.
